Living with HIV is no more a death sentence but it is rather a beginning of a challenging life. Thanks to pioneering efforts from different stakeholders and organization to demand increase access to the life saving antiretroviral treatment and care in Nepal. With the support from the government of Nepal and NAP+N (National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS Nepal) Maya Nepal provides the crucial Care and Support services through its Community Care Centers to those in need across the country.
Community Care Centers provide short-term medical and psychological care to People living with HIV (PLHAs) by PLHA for those who are in need. In an average these centers have 5 beds and employ up-to 5 staffs and volunteers. Most of the clients staying in these centers can remain here for a maximum of 1 month at a time. Mostly PLHAs who are starting TB or HIV treatment also stay here until they fully adapt to their new regimen.
Currently, Maya Nepal runs 2 such centers in the country
Generally after initiating ARV treatment PLHAs are able to lead a normal lifestyle; however, at times they may need different forms of support. We provide individual/couple/family counseling, bereavement and adherence counseling, drug dependence counseling and support to those in need from across the country.
Community & Home Based Care (CHBC) strategy is guiding our efforts in the battle against AIDS in the frontlines in Nepal. From the very beginning, through community mobilization, we have been able to bring PLHAs out of their closet as well as to provide support at their doorsteps as needed. Our outreach workers provide counseling and referral support at homes and communities and are also available for case management. We also provide support for medication, transportation and diagnostic cost and nutrition. These programs also support Children Affected by AIDS (CABA) through comprehensive package of care and support.
Information, Counseling & Referral Center (IC&RC) The main objective of IC&RC is to provide information, education and counseling as well as referral services to PLHAs and their families living in remote districts. These centers reach out to those hard to reach and refer for support to the different stakeholders, health care centers and communities’ networks.
